Games to Play With Your Player 2
It takes two to make a thing go right. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we've got 10 of the best co-op games you can play alongside your player two! Grab your fave controllers and settle in for a night of fun together.
Overcooked: All You Can Eat (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC)
Overcooked looks deceptively simple and is best played with a player two. Two chefs pair up to cook meals under the pressure of impatient customers and a clock.
But Overcooked is surprisingly deep when you realize levels are intricately designed with cooking stations on the opposite side of your pantry. And the kitchen is a dizzying maze, inside of moving trucks, a haunted forest or shifting hot air balloons. You’ll be begging your co-op partner to throw you some meat, chop onions or dice tomatoes at the same time as they’re screaming at you to cook, plate and wash while you’re both belly laughing as time ticks down.
With Overcooked: All You Can Eat, play through both titles and ALL of the DLC released over the years that’s guaranteed to provide weeks' worth of fun whether you're playing on PS5 or Xbox Series X!
Snipperclips (Nintendo Switch)
Without a doubt, Snipperclips is one of the most unique games you’ll find on the Nintendo Switch. A cutesy puzzle game where you and your partner must cut each other into different shapes, such as getting a basketball into a hoop or popping a balloon. Not only will the puzzles challenge your mental capacity, what you’ll ask your player two will leave both of you laughing into the late hours.
The updated Snipperclips Plus added 30 levels, two new worlds and new modes to play with your co-op partner.
Moving Out (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC)
Another game on the list that looks deceptively simple. In Moving Out, you and a co-op partner play as movers tasked with taking furniture from a house into a moving truck. Some items can be moved solo while others require both players.
But what seems simple takes skill thanks to over-the-top physics and stages that are trying to stop you at every turn. A misstep could mean running into rakes that cause you to drop a priceless vase or you might slip on ice while moving a refrigerator. Work together as you laugh through the night.
Any LEGO game (available on most consoles)
Any LEGO game will provide hours of fun, and with dozens of choices from a myriad of licenses on nearly every console, you’ll have no problem picking your favorite. Choose from Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars or DC whatever interests you and your player two.
LEGO games are easy to pick up for gamers of any skill level with simple controls and an approachable difficulty. Most games include hundreds of characters with hours of brick breaking and collecting to play long after Valentine’s Day has passed.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo Switch)
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is THE party fighting game that’s easy to pick up and fun to master, making this a perfect game to play with your co-op partner. Better yet, you can team up against the computer or settle any differences – like who’s cooking dinner for Valentine’s Day!
Whether it’s your first time or thousandth time, each match is different. Featuring a cast of over 80 Nintendo and guest publisher characters, over 100 stages, multiple competitive and co-op modes, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will scratch that ‘one more match’ itch.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo Switch)
Everyone knows Mario Kart’s premise – Mario and friends drive around a circuit using power-ups to harm competitors and better their chances of winning. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is Mario Kart at its finest. With dozens of courses, wacky power-ups, and pitch-perfect controls, you can’t go wrong playing this one, no matter the holiday.
Mario Kart is another title that’s easy to pick up but takes time to master. Fans of any age or skill level can enjoy racing, and thanks to a well-timed power-up, even squeak out a win!
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Nintendo Switch)
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe might be a mouthful to say, but it features the signature Mario platforming you’ve come to expect, but with a twist. This time around, up to four players will work their way through incredible stages, searching for hidden coins on their way to stop Bowser from taking over the Mushroom Kingdom.
The addition of co-op in a Mario title brings some new obstacles and challenges along the way, and it’s up to you whether you want to help or harm your player two; maniacal laughing is encouraged!
Minecraft Dungeons (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawling, light RPG spin the massive franchise, introducing itself to new players, and it succeeds in being more than a Diablo-clone. Combine the retro-inspired graphics, loot collecting, and couch co-op you’ll be in for hours of fun as you trek your way through handcrafted and procedurally generated levels that might cause you to stay up all night.
If hack-and-slash isn’t your cup of tea, you can always pick up Minecraft and team up to create the world of your dreams.
It Takes Two (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC)
It Takes Two took the gaming world by surprise when it launched last year, even taking the prestigious Game of the Year 2021 at The Game Awards. You and another player take control as a married couple going through a divorce who become trapped in hand-made dolls.
Each level focuses on different gameplay mechanics and minigames. You’ve got to work together as it will take two to complete each level since this game was designed with co-op in mind – no solo players for this one! While the story might take a dark turn, It Takes Two is a great game to play with your significant other and can be completed over a weekend.
Until Dawn (PlayStation 4)
Hear us out on this one. Until Dawn is a single-player, story-driven horror title where every choice means something, including death!
What makes this the perfect Valentine’s Day co-op game? Play with your partner and band together in your decisions and watch the outcome. Can you overcome differing opinions to keep everyone alive? Or will the adventure end with no survivors? Once you finish, you'll realize you played one of the best PS4 games and had a scary good time with your partner!
Playing games cooperatively is a great way to spend the holiday, no matter who it’s with. Use this list to plan out your day and check out some gift ideas for the day.
