When we launched our first Vertical Skateboard Mount in 2019, it brought back some awesome memories for our staff as they shared skateboarding stories. Chuck, Co-Founder and COO of HIDEit Mounts, is a longtime cruiser. As a kid, his first real skateboard was an Eric Nash pro deck with Tracker Trucks and Slime Ball Wheels.
“I loved that skateboard. It was so cool…and got stolen out of my garage within two months,” remembers Chuck. “Growing up in Southern California it was easy being into skateboarding. I used to watch the Bones Brigade. And while I don’t have a favorite skater, I admire Tony Hawk. He’s an old guy that’s still doing cool sh*t.”

Chuck and Charlie Cruisin' Newport BeachOur team took on the challenge of designing the HIDEit VSkate Mount to work with all complete skateboards and also making it minimal, sleek, and ultra affordable.
We kicked-off the process by making plastic molds of different skateboard trucks so we could get a closer look at the details (or maybe it was just a good excuse to use the heat gun!) We created a handful of prototypes for inspiration, made adjustments, and even went back to the drawing board. As you can see from the prototypes below, our team grinded out a number of designs (with a little blood, sweat, and tears) until the final version was perfect.

HIDEit VSkate Final DesignHowever, we didn’t stop there. While the HIDEit VSkate worked as the ultimate storage solution, customers wanted a mount that showed off their custom decks. Enter the HIDEit Display Skate Mount - our next gen vertical skateboard mount with the ability to DISPLAY the deck and store the board!
Our team went through a series of designs before coming up with an entirely new two-piece concept utilizing a steel bar and backplate. Why a steel bar? Well, the bar solved the challenge of providing enough strength to support the skateboard’s weight while also taking up minimal space by laying flat against the wall when not in use. The unique U-shape design cradles the trucks to securely hold any board style in place, even boards with more curvature. Most importantly, we chose to coat the bar in rubber to prevent it from scratching the board.
