What are YOU doing for Valentine's?

It’s almost Valentine’s Day. You know, the night where couples rush to get dolled up to sit and wait, even if they had reservations, for who knows how long at their local swanky restaurant. It’s the night that the restaurant industry loves (if they pocket the profits) or hates (if they are serving you instead of spending time with their Valentine). After a long wait and slow service, the masses will head out to see 50 Shades of Grey…on opening night. What’s more romantic than being in a dark room with your honey, watching all kinds of naughty on the big screen, surrounded by HUNDREDS of other couples? You could do that. You could.

When you have kids, adult date nights are precious, so we don’t pay our babysitter to watch the kids just so we can spend time waiting at the hottest restaurant. Instead, we’ll spend a lovely, romantic Valentine’s date night…at home. Saves money, saves time. You should try it. Wink, wink.

It really doesn’t take much to set the stage for a romantic night in. The most prep time you will have will be creating “the mood”. Ambiance is key! Tidy things up. Get your PS4, Xbox One and Cable Box neat and organized - all of those plus controllers are hiding behind that TV using HIDEit Mounts! Candles are a must-have…scented or not. Grab blankets and pillows and BAM! You have just turned your living room into a lovey-dovey cuddle spot.

Food and snacks…yes, you both need to eat. Order in Chinese take-out. Make a fancy French style picnic of bread and cheese. Bonus - you don’t have to sneak in that bottle of wine! Chocolate covered strawberries would make for a tasty treat. Whatever you do, plan for easy-peasy. After the evening gets started, you won’t want to deal with dishes. I promise.

All that’s left is picking the perfect movie. Just because it’s Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you HAVE to watch a Romantic Comedy. You can, if you really want to. Or you could grab a thriller like Gone Girl from Redbox. Horrible Bosses 2 will be available on Amazon Instant Video, if you’re in the mood for a raunchy Jennifer Aniston. We’ll probably check out Don Jon on Netflix. (insert whistle) If you’re undecided, you could always check out rottentomatoes.com for ideas.

Try something new and exciting this year (joke). Seriously, a night in may just be one of your favorite Valentine’s Dates, ever.
